Abstract Groundwater is the primary source for human life, intended consumption and agricultural production, particularly in F'kirina plain, a semi-arid region eastern Algeria. The study aims to determine hydrogeochemical characteristics of groundwater, including (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+), CO3, HCO3 − , Cl-, SO4 2− NO3, PO4 temperature, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS). results were analyzed using XLSTAT software (2016) with Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Piper diagram, four hydrochemical facies. Their suitability was assessed by calculating Water Quality Index (WQI) according World Health Organization (WHO) standards (2011), WQI below 50 considered suitable consumption. Samples P3, P5, P6, P15 classified as excellent groundwater quality (WQI < 50), while samples P4, P7, P8, P9, P17, P18 indicated good (50 100). However, 50% wells showed elevated levels major elements exceeding standards. observed sequence element dominance high quantities Ca2 + > Mg2 Na K+, anions follow order Cl− 2 NO3 −> NO2 −. PCA revealed two factors influencing overall hydrogeochemistry: geogenic impact attributed geological substrate secondarily prevailing geochemical (redox) conditions. Conversely, anthropogenic primarily related practices leading nitrate enrichment salinization. These contribute degradation f’kirina plain.
