Abstract
Despite
the
global
rise
in
child
mental
health
difficulties,
public
understanding
of
young
children’s
remains
unclear.
Parents
play
a
pivotal
role
supporting
their

seeking
professional
help
for
concerns.
Our
mixed-methods
systematic
review
sought
to
describe
current
levels
literacy
(CMHL)
among
parents,
examine
variations
across
sociodemographic
clinical
factors,
explore
relationship
between
CMHL
help-seeking.
We
searched
six
databases
English-language
studies
investigating
any
aspect
parents
children
aged
4–12
years
community
settings,
published
last
decade.
From
26
12
countries
(N
=
5562),
we
found
that
generally
had:
(1)
low
moderately
recognition,
(2)
diverse
causal
other
beliefs
(in
Western
non-Western
countries),
(3)
high
stigmatising
perceived
stigma;
(4)
attitudes
help-seeking
ranging
from
positive
highly
negative,
(5)
awareness
available
help.
Lower
was
associated
with
lower
parental
education
level,
being
father
less
acculturated
ethnic
minorities,
while
higher
linked
previous
service
use.
Help-seekers
tended
have
than
non-help-seekers.
Thus,
disparities
may
contribute
unequal
access
services.
A
more
holistic,
strengths-based
prevention-focused
approach
future
research
measurement
would
inform
intervention.
Public
campaigns
targeted
coproduced
interventions
enhance
should
form
key
strategy
promotion
wellbeing.
