Bio-inspired Design (BID) is a method that draws principles from biological systems to solve complex real-world problems. While diverse knowledge-based tools have served BID, the retrieval and reasoning capabilities of knowledge graphs not been explored in BID. This study introduces novel graph-based BID approach, exploiting power support In comprehensive ontology defined then applied construct BID-specific graph, enabling efficient representation rich knowledge. The graph supports by facilitating reasoning. Retrieval accomplished finding potential links between relevant design applications. Reasoning supported link prediction model follows process mapping Two case studies are conducted demonstrate effectiveness approach. first shows our approach outperforms other benchmarks retrieving related knowledge, second presents how aids generating inspirational ideas.

Abstract The gap between the number of described species and that actually exist is known as Linnean shortfall fundamental importance for biogeography conservation. Unsurprisingly, there have been many attempts to quantify its extent different taxa regions. In this Perspective , we argue such forecasts remain highly problematic because does depend not only on rates exploration (sampling undescribed taxa) which estimates commonly based but also taxonomic change (lumping splitting). These changes concepts adopted information methods used delimit species. Commonly estimating unknown (e.g. discovery curves, taxon ratios) can underestimate or overestimate if they do effectively account trends change. A further complication history well documented most typically available in biodiversity databases. Moreover, wide geographic variation adoption delimitation mean comparison even same regions may be unreliable. Given high likelihood future major taxa, propose two main strategies consider influence species: (i) a conservative approach shortfall, restricting analysis groups where taxonomies are relatively stable (ii) explicitly incorporating metrics into models estimates. short, relevant will achieved by accounting dynamic nature process itself.

Abstract The Neotropics encompasses a wide range of biomes and habitat types that place it as one the most important regions for understanding prevalence cryptic unknown diversity. However, this region is least represented in genetic data tree life. Knowledge, conservation and scientific innovation on biodiversity are being strengthened disseminated at unprecedented scales. Our study explores how botanists bioinformaticians have accelerated the digitisation cataloguing Brazil's megadiverse flora funga. Collaborative effort, advanced technological systems sustained financial support essential for achieving successful outcomes. Inventorying Brazilian is an ongoing mission that demands dedication future generations. Summary Brazil made significant progress in digitising taxonomically curating millions herbarium specimens its funga species. Here, we report experience synergy among taxonomists crucial developing technologies streamline these activities, positioning institutions forefront botanical documentation. Broadly used by 99 mostly institutions, Sistema de Gerenciamento Coleções Botânicas do Jardim Botânico Rio Janeiro (JABOT) fully online platform manage, digitise curate collections. The Herbário Virtual Reflora (HVR) gathers more than 4.7 million high‐resolution specimen images, enabling examine annotate nomenclatural updates. Built collaborative effort around 1000 working remotely, Flora e Funga Brasil (FFB) serves as official dictionary plant fungi names across JABOT, HVR government platforms. Catálogo Plantas das Unidades Conservação (CPUCB) provides comprehensive species checklists protected (PAs) country. By integrating systems, which deeply rooted physical collections, established truly robust foundation digital collections understanding conserving biodiversity.
