Post-harvest losses of fruits due to decay and concerns regarding microbial food safety are significant within the produce processing industry. Additionally, maintaining quality exported commodities distant countries continues pose a challenge. To address these issues, application bioactive compounds, such as essential oils, has gained recognition means extend shelf life by acting antimicrobials. Herein, we have undertaken an innovative approach nano-encapsulating cinnamon-bark oil using whey protein concentrate imbibing nano-encapsulates into food-grade wax commonly applied on surfaces. We comprehensively examined physical, chemical, antimicrobial properties this hybrid evaluate its efficacy in combatting various foodborne pathogens that frequently trouble producers handlers post-harvest The coatings demonstrated static contact angle 85 ± 1.6°, advancing receding angles 90 1.1° 53.0 respectively, resembling wetting natural waxes apples. Nanoencapsulation significantly delayed release oil, increasing half-life 61 h compared unencapsulated counterparts. This delay correlated with statistically reductions (p = 0.05) bacterial populations providing both immediate (up 72 h) antibacterial effects well expanded fungal growth inhibition zones existing technologies, demonstrating promising applicability for high-quality fruit storage export. utilization advanced coating technology offers considerable potential bolstering enhanced protection against bacteria fungi commodities.

Background/objectives: Propolis (bee glue) is a valuable bee product widely used as natural remedy, cosmetic ingredient, nutritional value enhancer and food biopreservative. The present research aims to investigate the phenolic content, antioxidant activity in vitro anti-inflammatory antitumor potential of six propolis samples from three regions Bulgaria (Vidin, Gabrovo Lovech). Methods: analysis compounds was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); ethanolic extracts assessed 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay ferric-reducing power (FRAP) assay; inhibition albumin denaturation method; human metastatic breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 using 3-(4,5-Dimethyl -2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Results: exhibited total content 190.4 317.0 mg GAE/g, flavonoid 53.4 79.3 QE/g caffeic acid derivatives 5.9 12.1 CAE/g. studied showed significant capacity (between 1000.3 1606.0 mM TE/g DPPH assay, between 634.1 1134.5 FRAP assay). chemical composition indicated high concentrations benzyl ester, chrysin, pinocembrin pinobanksin-3-O-propionate, predominantly originating Lovech regions. All demonstrated promising activity, expressed thermally induced 73.59% 78.44%, which higher than that conventional drugs Aspirin (58.44%) Prednisolone Cortico (57.34%). cytotoxicity against cells with IC50 values ranging 9.24 13.62 µg/mL MTT Conclusions: Overall, we can suggest Bulgarian respective areas contributes its enhanced antioxidant, activity. Taken together, our results support beneficial properties propolis, application therapeutic agent.

Abstract Various conditions of extraction were applied to obtain active extracts raw poplar-type propolis. The efficiency traditional maceration was evaluated in terms used solvent: ethanol (70 and 96% v/v), acetone (pure 70%), propylene glycol, glycerol (50%), water with modifiers: PEG 400 lecithin. For obtained extracts, the total amounts extracted phenolics flavonoids as well antioxidant activity compared. most profile volatile organic compounds use GC × GC–MS selected polyphenols content by HPLC–DAD To increase propolis, extract ultrasound microwave-assisted compared regarding main polyphenolic quantified HPLC method. recovery 70% ethanolic effect extension time also examined HPTLC Based on conducted analyses, found aromatic bioactive, followed pure polypropylene glycol extracts. Compared classic maceration, assisted microwaves ultrasounds did not provide a higher yield. In case extraction, 5-day duration is recommended which allows close 80% bioactive components
