Abstract Adult female desert locusts ( Schistocerca gregaria ) dig underground to lay their eggs, ensuring optimal conditions for successful hatching. Digging is performed using the two pairs of oviposition valves at tip female's abdomen. These are subjected considerable shear forces during repeated digging cycles, potentially leading wear over time. The resilience investigated by analyzing relationship between experience and valve damage throughout locust's life. findings reveal ability withstand significant encountered digging. Despite this resilience, however, perceptible limitations in valves’ mechanical durability against observed. Toward end life, show substantial signs wear, indicating effective performance but with limited longevity, i.e., a designated life span that enables ca . four cycles. A comparison material animals’ mandibles, which used continuously remarkable wear‐resistance, further highlights evolutionary adaptation materials specific function, suggesting trade‐off energetic investment sufficient, or “good‐enough”, required survival.
