Abstract This study investigated the use of functionalized cabuya fibers (FCF) as an effective adsorbent for Hg (II) removal from aqueous solutions. The composition, surface properties, and morphology FCF were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). effects pH, contact time, temperature, dosage, initial concentration on adsorption process studied. Under optimized experimental conditions, achieved a efficiency exceeding 92%, with maximum capacity 8.29 mg/g. data isotherm analyzed using Langmuir, Freundlich, DR, Temkin models. Notably, Langmuir exhibited highest R² value 0.99, indicating model’s strong applicability. pseudo-second-order kinetic model k 2 = 0.42 mg/g.min was employed to elucidate mechanism. Thermodynamic studies conducted, ΔG° (-6.16 kJ/mol), ΔH° (36.29 ΔS° (141.98 kJ/mol·K) calculated, assessing feasibility process. Additionally, desorption results evaluated, demonstrating that it can be reused up three cycles, achieving rates 74% 62% in third cycle. indicates its stability recycling capacity. Finally, effectiveness demonstrated eliminating approximately 91% real mineral water samples Ecuador. These highlight p promising, eco-friendly, sustainable adsorbents remediation contamination aquatic systems.
