To define training zones, ventilatory thresholds (VTs) are commonly established by cardiopulmonary gas-exchange analysis during incremental exercise tests. Portable near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) devices have emerged as a potential tool for detecting these monitoring muscle oxygenation. This study evaluated the accuracy of NIRS measurements to determine VTs or critical power (CP) based on oxygen saturation and assesses device’s consistency across 2 constant-load Data from cross-sectional studies involving trained recreational endurance athletes (26 1) CrossFit (59 2) were examined. The purpose of the study was to compare muscle oxygenation as measured by two portable, wireless near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) devices under resting and dynamic conditions. A recently developed low-cost NIRS device (MOXY) compared against an established PortaMon system that makes use spatially resolved algorithm. influence increasing external pressure on tissue oxygen saturation index (TSI) indicated both are stable between 2 20 mmHg. However, above this pressure, MOXY reports declining TSI values. There is a growing interest in monitoring muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2), which localized measure of oxidative metabolism and can be acquired continuously noninvasively using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) methods. Most NIRS systems are cumbersome, expensive, fiber coupled devices, with use limited to lab settings. A novel, low cost, wireless, wearable has been developed for athletic training. In this study, we evaluate the advantages limitations new simple continuous-wave (CW) device respect benchtop, frequency-domain (FDNIRS) system.
