Abstract Introduction The present web-based national survey aims to assess the clinician's perspective toward (1) indications perform positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in cancer patients, (2) utility of interaction with referring nuclear medicine physician, and (3) their perception clarity, usefulness, impact PET/CT report. Methods We conducted a prospective consisting 31 multiple-choice questions an open-text field. questionnaire was administered Italian clinicians or surgeons who managed oncological patients. Data were analyzed using standard diagrams values expressed as numbers (percentages). Results A total 373 physicians completed questionnaire. Among 360 responses finally included analysis, majority came from radiation oncologists (46%), followed by oncologists. For half respondents (53%), examination “often” clear easily accessible, but only 16% considered them “absolutely” accessible. Additionally, most (43%) necessary facilitate access update. physician generally useful satisfying. Regarding report, 74% standardize report structure, presence semi-quantitative parameters great importance. Finally, about cases impacts patient management major changes. Conclusion To sum up, “still not” complete confidence need update emerged our results. Moreover, structured clarification on essential PET features is warranted. In this scenario, participation guideline committees, international conferences well continuous training among all specialists involved patients’ could be effective strategies resolve clinicians' concerns PET/CT, thereby improving

Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT)-guided radiation therapy simulation has transformed cancer treatment, ushering in enhanced precision and individualization. This discussion delves into clinical indications, applications, procedures, limitations, providing a comprehensive overview across types. Clinical indications underscore PET/CT's role accurate staging, target volume delineation, treatment response assessment, post-treatment recurrence detection. Accurate staging is crucial for tailored plans, while delineation benefits from PET's identification of metabolic patterns. Ongoing assessment enables dynamic adjustments, post-treatment, PET/CT aids detecting recurrent disease. Applications highlight planning optimization by combining anatomical functional information. Fusion PET CT images customizes identifying active regions targeted delivery sparing healthy tissues. fusion facilitates strategies, minimizing exposure enabling adaptations. Procedural aspects detail imaging acquisition, image fusion, planning, ongoing monitoring. Starting with radiotracer administration, typically fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), captures data. Image optimizing plans. monitoring allows real-time adjustments. Specific applications cancers demonstrate versatility. In head neck cancers, it ensures precise avoiding critical structures. lung cancer, improves tumor extent identification. Similar advantages apply to lymphomas, sarcomas, brain tumors, metastatic disease, esophageal, gastrointestinal, breast, prostate, gynecological, pediatric cancers. Limitations include spatial resolution challenges, false positives, cumulative exposure, lesion size, histology, standardization issues. research targets enhancement, radiomics AI integration, novel tracers, hybrid imaging, patient-specific dosimetry, trials, multimodal workflows, cost-effectiveness, accessibility, education. PET/CT-guided transformative. advancements promise more individualized approach, enhancing patient outcomes management.
