Abstract Plants exposed to drought not only have cope with a shortage of water, but also simultaneous decrease in nutrient availability. In this greenhouse experiment, the responses antioxidants and key metabolites 2 or 4 days water limitation immediately prior harvest were compared effect continued supply lettuce leaves. Water led faster increase stress intensity than limitation. While moderate slight antioxidant compounds studied, there was concomitant sharp starch content. Under limitation, an content ascorbic acid, proportion reduced acid phenolic compounds, flavonoids, soluble sugars observed mild phase stress. These results suggest that reducing availability shortly before could be suitable means improving nutritional value crops through cultivation practices as opposed breeding.

Flood events are likely to increase in the near future and one of most threatening agricultural production. Barley is fourth important crop cereal sensitive excessive moisture stress. Improving stress tolerance crops a variety factors caused by more volatile climate an task for coming years. The aim this study was investigate efficacy cold atmospheric plasma-treated water (PTW) as foliar spray stimulate antioxidant system Hordeum vulgare thereby improve plant tolerance. For purpose, we analysed components ascorbate-glutathione cycle barley leaves roots without under waterlogging conditions. PTW increased content total reduced ascorbate well four weeks after treatment. This observed both, free conditions re-aeration. In leaves, enzyme activities also re-aeration, roots, glutathione levels compared control. accumulation low molecular weight antioxidants may through efficient scavenging ROS. Overall, treatment plants with trigger adaptive response that leads mitigation negative effects stress, thus, could be used priming agent protection against subsequent severe occur plants' natural environment.
