High-sulphur petroleum coke (HSPC), a significant byproduct of refining, has limited applications except as fuel for combustion. This study aims to expand its utility by investigating efficacy reductant disposing Zn-containing dust, thereby substituting traditional coal-based reductants. The pyrolysis results showed that the gases generated from HSPC primarily comprised hydrogen gas (H 2 ), carbon monoxide (CO), methane and dioxide. H CO accounted above 90% total at 1200 °C. reduction reaction mechanism was elucidated thermodynamic calculations carbothermal experiments. At 800 °C, ZnFe O 4 is gradually decomposed into Fe 3 , FeO ZnO, completely reduced . 900–1000 iron oxides are basically Fe, ZnO also Zn. Above 1100 CaMgSiO slag phase due combination CaO, MgO SiO roasting product with metallic material obtained, sulphur removal rate reaches 58%. provides valuable insights clean efficient recovery reuse coke–coal, offering promising avenue sustainable resource management.

This paper aims at providing an overview of the ways for residue valorization in iron and steelmaking industry. The important role recycling as a cornerstone achieving cleaner resource-efficient potential is described. Several research results concerning metals metal oxides (scrap, scale), slags, dusts, process gases, water from are reviewed here, aiming to detect those gaps that still need implementation suggest approaches toward solutions. Through comprehensive evaluation, several possibilities provided incorporate effectively metallurgical processes bio-based or bio-derived carbon materials, namely biomass, biochar, biocoke, polymers waste plastics reduce dependence on fuel reducing agents fossil sources, therefore mitigating related environmental impact steel Eventually, this review highlights importance embracing circular economy (CE) principles steelmaking, along with considering opportunities industrial symbiosis (IS) exploring digitalization digital solutions practices.
