The protracted maritime jurisdictional disputes in Türkiye's EEZ the Eastern Mediterranean have perpetuated economic disparities and engendered lacunae fisheries management that could undermine marine biodiversity regional collaboration efforts. This study interrogates extent frequency of extraterritorial fishing operations within contiguous zone territorial waters, with a particular emphasis on years 2013 through 2023. Utilizing data acquired from Global Fishing Watch, analysis delineates monthly average hours engaged by different gear types-namely small scale, trawl, undefined, purse seine-across various neighboring countries, including Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Libya, Morocco. Findings reveal persistent increase activities these contentious waters over observed period, reflecting rise deployment ship-tracking systems, which potentially inflated reported hours. surge underscores urgent need for comprehensive strategies harmonize pursuits preservation delicate ecosystems. study's methodology involved analyzing vessel movements via Marine Traffic Watch data, assessing parameters such as areas, periods, methods, national affiliations. results, illustrated Tables Figures without direct citation due to aggregative nature show varied patterns activities. significant trawl 2022, peaking at 857.29 hours, intensification certain practices region. resolving international is pivotal establishing effective Mediterranean. findings advocate enhanced diplomatic endeavors cooperative governance among littoral nations, supported entities ensure sustainable exploitation resources bridge gaps illuminated this decade-long empirical inquiry.

This study was conducted to examine the effects of regional wind changes on trawl fishing effort in Iskenderun Bay from 2017 2023 by analyzing meteorological data, daily durations, and catch quantities. It found that an increase intensity reduced durations average 0.367 h. Northerly easterly winds were observed have higher speeds throughout year, with highest reaching 14 m/s March. Fishing activities affected more southerly westerly due geographical structure Bay. Seasonal variations also detected, being longer at beginning season autumn decreasing spring. Species such as red mullet, brushtooth lizardfish, shrimp identified having a significant impact activities. The relationships between intensity, direction, revealed through statistical analyses. shown environmental seasonal factors influenced These results provided insights into interactions dynamics operations.

A comparative analysis of seafood exports in the Hatay region between 2008 and 2023, relation to overall trends Türkiye different regions, was conducted. Seafood export data obtained from Turkish Statistical Institute. The amount has been a long-term decline fishing production potential Hatay, contrary general trend Türkiye. Specifically, decreased by 62% since 2018, while it 22.65% 2023 compared previous year. This ongoing downward can be attributed COVID-19, Syrian civil war, recent devastating earthquake region. Despite high for region, investments have limited due lack allocation organized industrial zones. Additionally, absence wholesale fish market is major issue preventing emergence regional market. All these factors caused disruptions supply chain production, increased input costs, uncertainties both domestically internationally. indicates that infrastructure must prioritized all stakeholders, central authority, decisionmakers policymakers sustainable contributing development. In conclusion, despite strong logistics Iskenderun Bay, sector failed reach its full potential, unlike national shortfall directly reflected values.
