BACKGROUND: Technology-driven assistive devices provide numerous benefits to people with severe visual impairments, yet device take-up rates are often low. OBJECTIVE: The study sought determine the strengths of connections between transportation self-efficacy, technophobia, personal inertia, innovation resistance, and willingness adopt high-tech among visually impaired individuals. It also examined certain potential barriers acceptance; namely perceived safety complexity effects on a person’s self-image using device. METHODS: A model was developed tested via questionnaire survey 319 disabilities, each whom presented five examples hypothetical mobility devices.
