Abstract To analyze contamination levels, spatial distribution characteristics, bioavailability, and risks of heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Hg, Pb), 65 road dust samples were collected from Zhengzhou in October 2023. The mean concentrations most metals, except exceeded their corresponding background values, with the concentration Cd being 7.43 times that its background. Spatially, for higher concentrated within central area, notable pollution hotspot emerged proximity to construction area. Cr, Pb mostly bound residual fraction lower while Zn mainly exchangeable bioavailability. enrichment factor, geo-accumulation, load index indicated Hg highly contaminated, particularly yet study area remained moderate pollution. average RI value 384.66 a considerate ecological risk, caused highest potential risk. Both non-carcinogenic carcinogenic risk insignificant, however, human health demand attention. research results can provide theoretical basis data support prevention control urban environment Zhengzhou.
