Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is commonly associated with distressing psychological symptoms. Pathologic changes AUD have been described in both the gut microbiome and brain, but mechanisms underlying gut-brain signaling individuals are unknown. This study examined associations among microbiome, brain morphometry, clinical symptoms treatment-seeking AUD.

There has been a growing acknowledgement of the involvement gut microbiome - collection microbes that reside in our regulating mood and behaviour. This phenomenon is referred to as microbiome-gut-brain axis. While techniques measure presence abundance these have steadily improving, analysis data non-trivial. Here, we present perspective on concepts foundations interpretation experiments with focus axis domain. We give an overview foundational considerations prior commencing alongside core approaches alpha diversity, beta differential feature functional inference. emphasize compositional (CoDA) paradigm. Further, this features extensive heavily annotated R supplementary materials, resource for new experienced bioinformaticians alike.
