Abstract. The erosional landscape of the Jojosi dongas in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, exposes accretionary slope deposits that preserve important geological and archaeological information. This was occupied by modern humans during Stone Age for many thousands years, as evidenced presence numerous stone artefacts on surface interbedded within at least three phases gully cut-and-fill deposits. A contextualisation their role human evolution southern along with developing an understanding environmental conditions shaped this inhabited landscape, is only made possible establishing a robust chronological framework. Here, we use luminescence dating feldspars to constrain geochronological framework sequence hillslope deposition sampling locations. Measurements feldspar single grains show low sensitivity individual variable proportion saturation. Summing signal creating synthetic aliquots enables us study effect averaging sensitivity, saturation, dose distributions. We then compare results from grain measurements true multi-grain aliquots. To allow quantification results, apply four different models, including Central Model (CAM), Average Dose (ADM), BayLum, standardised growth curve (SGC) approach, using averaged Ln/Tn value interpolated onto SGC. Doses calculated samples range ∼ 80 800 Gy contain 6 % 67 saturated grains. evaluate performance models over equivalent doses relative number On average, find good agreement between obtained but observe large impact consistency result. Overall, all data sets give consistent below threshold 15 %, corresponding 120 study. Finally, favour BayLum age calculations single-grain aliquot sets, representing opportunity refine chronology stratigraphic information calculations. are able establish sampled sections dongas, constraining depositional processes 100 700 ka, occupation area spanning early marine isotope stage (MIS) 5 late MIS 6.
