Recently, a vector called Rortex was proposed and successfully applied to identify the local fluid rotation with both axis strength. The first implementation relies on real Schur decomposition of velocity gradient tensor, resulting in relatively long computational time. Subsequently, mathematically equivalent eigenvector-based definition introduced an improved implementation. Unfortunately, this still tends be algorithmic description rather than explicit one involves two successive cumbersome coordinate rotations. In paper, simple expression for calculation vector, which is based special (transposed) form presented. consistent previous but avoids rotation, thus can significantly simplify According expression, new validated by large eddy simulation flow transition around NACA0012 airfoil direct numerical boundary layer flat plate.

Vortex flows, related to solar convective turbulent dynamics at granular scales and their interplay with magnetic fields within intergranular lanes, occur abundantly on the surface in atmosphere above. Their presence is revealed high-resolution high-cadence observations from ground space state-of-the-art magnetoconvection simulations. Vortical flows exhibit complex characteristics dynamics, excite a wide range of different waves, couple layers atmosphere, which facilitates channeling transfer mass, momentum energy up low corona. Here we provide comprehensive review documented research new developments theory, observations, modelling vortices over past decades after observational discovery, including recent Hα , innovative detection techniques, diverse hydrostatic waves forefront magnetohydrodynamic simulations incorporating effects non-ideal plasma. It first systematic overview vortex scales, field plethora names for phenomena that similarities differences often interconnect rely same physics. With advent 4-m Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope forthcoming European Telescope, ongoing Orbiter mission, development cutting-edge simulations, this timely addresses outlines both theoretical future directions.

The dominant vortex structure near the hub in rotor corner separation flow has an important influence on internal of axial rotating machinery. However, current quantitative research key vortical characteristics is still insufficient. analysis (horn-like vortex) pump was conducted and found that average intensity turbulence eddy dissipation show a gradual weakening trend along core line from region to tail under various working conditions. evolution horn-like life cycle includes five stages, inception-growth-development-attachment-decay typical condition 0.62Q0. statistical frequency periodic about 2.76 times shaft rotation frequency. pressure fluctuation induced by increases rapidly dominates channel. peak-peak value impeller outlet section close 2.79 inlet should be paid enough attention to.
