Abstract MgO–C refractories are of paramount importance in the converter side blowing system, requiring outstanding oxidation resistance under harsh conditions including high temperature, oxygen atmosphere, and high‐speed airflow. In this study, MgSiN 2 phase reconstruction was used to improve refractories, as well mechanical properties were evaluated. The results indicated that cold modulus rupture sample with 9 wt% increased by 93.3% compared without . After tests, index rate constant ( k ) reduced 38.9% 35.3%. Furthermore, incorporating facilitated formation layered dense structures consisting plate‐like Mg‐Sialon MgO–Mg SiO 4 –MgAl O This structural optimization effectively inhibited diffusion reaction within material, resulting gradual potential mitigation.

Abstract On the rising demand for eco‐friendly refractories, reducing use of likely toxic magnesia‐chromium aggregates remains a challenge. Previous studies by some authors have proposed Cr‐free alternative compositions, although morphology spinel precipitates has varied across different suggested systems. The mechanisms involved in formation these distinct morphologies were unclear and, therefore, are focus this work. In all SEM/electron backscatter diffraction revealed cube–cube orientation relationships between matrix and precipitates, indicating that their is influenced lattice parameter misfit ( δ ), which was measured using synchrotron X‐ray diffraction. It could be concluded coarser spherical form to minimize surface‐to‐volume ratio compositions with high absolute ‐values. Conversely, low‐misfit systems enable 3D‐network. potential knowledge tailor microstructure novel demonstrated small Nb 2 O 5 addition into one compositions.
