Abstract This study has established the radiation shielding efficacy of zircaloy-2 and zircaloy-4 over a wide spectrum energy levels. Using Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) method, gamma neutron transmission factors (TF nTF) were calculated for various Zircaloy-2 demonstrated highest gamma-ray absorption capacity lowest among investigated alloys. The results indicate that have nearly same characteristics. Although many studies examined structure physical characteristics these materials, there been lack simulations to comprehensively investigate correlation between absorption, parameters, mechanical qualities. research aims examine ability zirconium its alloys, which are critical materials used in nuclear industry, absorb broad frequencies. According results, best secondary rays level resistance them. Despite minimal disparity nTF two simulation shown higher transmittance. These potential expedite development novel with enhanced attributes applications.

With the significant advancements in nuclear technology, countries have invested considerable research into radiation shielding and protection materials. Neutrons gamma photons strong penetrating abilities, which can directly jeopardize human health or lead to failure of electronic components. Therefore, developing high-performance materials for neutron photon has become a critical priority. Gadolinium (Gd), rare earth element with largest absorption cross-section among natural elements, performs excellently as absorber. Gd-containing composite are typically classified four main categories based on their matrix: metal-based, glass-based, ceramic-based, polymer-based. This paper reviews current status these types It provides comprehensive summary evaluation each material’s preparation processes, microstructures, mechanical properties, performance. Additionally, discusses role Gd type matrix material addresses challenges field.
