Abstract Activated carbon, with its notable porosity and large surface area, holds significant promise for various applications. However, the limited exploration of diverse biomass precursors insufficient correlation between pore distribution performance present several challenges. This study addresses these issues by synthesizing activated carbon from banana peel (BP), potato (PP), tea residue (TR) biomass, optimizing parameters such as temperature (350–900°C), time (30–480 min), pH (1–12), dosage (1–10 g), particle size (> 0.841 − 0.105 mm). The findings revealed that peel-derived achieved highest carbonization yield 69.867% under optimal conditions (temperature = 350°C, 30 min, 1, 3 g, > Significant enhancements in characteristics were observed compared to raw biomass. XRD confirmed existence graphitic (002), (100), (004) planes, which was further supported Raman spectroscopy showing D G bands near 1320 cm− 1 1568 1. Morphological analysis maximum area (49.374 m²g− 1) those derived (40.218 (45.355 1). Furthermore, synthesized exhibited superior thermal stability minimal weight loss ~ 17–19% across 20–900°C. research highlights contribution towards waste management resource utilization while supporting development green technologies synthesis.
