The urgent need to mitigate climate change requires finding sustainable and efficient alternatives fossil fuel-based materials. Biosequestration by microalgae has been suggested as a potential method for mitigation due its environmentally friendly nature ability produce high-value compounds. However, the large-scale application of microalgal biorefineries faces significant challenges, particularly in harvest processing stages, which are often costly energy-intensive. This study aims benchmark value-added fractions that can be produced via microalgae-based against their commercially available counterparts. A systematic review was conducted using Web Science™ database identify current commercial sources proteins, lipids, polyunsaturated fatty acids pigments, this identified key sectors applications each fraction, well market competitors. results highlight substantial cost differences across production systems, with traditional agricultural demonstrating lower CAPEX but greater environmental challenges. Meanwhile, although associated higher CAPEX, offer advantages such reduced land water dependency, potentially leading long-term economic resilience sustainability. By pinpointing research trends, optimization opportunities, work offers valuable insights into profitability competitiveness providing future efforts. novelty lies comprehensive comparison establishing clear suggesting focus areas enhancement.

The valorisation of urban biowaste can contribute to a circular and sustainable resource management. However, is not inherently sustainable. This study employs the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) investigate sustainability implications valorisation. A narrative literature review provided an overview current scientific knowledge on interactions between selected SDG targets. Then stakeholder interviews yielded insights into such in national context. Our findings show potential for 19 synergies 11 trade-offs 20 targets that are addressed detail. Although outnumber trade-offs, different context-dependencies influence nature strength interactions. This paper introduces an innovative model for the organization and management of municipal bio-waste collection networks in major cities, particularly relevant context COVID-19 pandemic. Embracing circular economy principles sustainable city practices, proposed addresses urgent need urban systems. Delving into dynamic landscape, with a focus on Athens, study highlights necessity robust decision-making methodology, implementation resilient processes, evaluation their efficacy, especially during challenging times. The centers effective collection, transportation, monitoring bio-waste, strategic aim to moderate environmental impacts, limit greenhouse gas emissions, advance development goals. Utilizing Technique Order Preference by Similarity Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method, this thoroughly examines critical components network, including infrastructure, technology, human resources. By merging best practices from global accounting unique characteristics envisions transition toward economy. Notably, network at source anticipates substantial contributions achieving Sustainable Development Goals cities. concludes showcasing successful application these methodologies Municipality providing tangible evidence positive impact.
