Mental health of persons with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh

Background
The
COVID-19
pandemic
has
impacted
the
mental
health
of
people
across
world,
including
those
with
disabilities
in
Bangladesh.
However,
very
little
research
exists
that
explored
problems
experienced
by
persons
rural
and
urban
areas
This
study
aimed
to
investigate
prevalence
associated
factors
common

A
cross-sectional
survey
using
Bangla
Depression
Anxiety
Stress
Scale-21
(BDASS-21)
sociodemographic
was
conducted
among
950
participants
varying
types
Dhaka,
Narayanganj,
Gazipur.
Descriptive
inferential
statistical
analyses
were
used
measure
effects.
Results
moderate
extremely
severe
depression,
anxiety,
stress
67.6%,
72.6%,
49.5%,
respectively.
Urban
exhibited
significantly
higher
levels
depression
(76.6%
Dhaka),
anxiety
(86.1%
(32.1%
Dhaka)
compared
their
counterparts
(depression:
86.16%,
anxiety:
91.07%,
stress:
97.77%
Gazipur).
Gender
differences
observed
females
reporting
than
males
(p<0.05).
Age
geographical
location
(p<0.042
p<0.001,
respectively),
also
experiencing
greater
(p<0.001).
Specific
disabilities,
such
as
visual
linked
levels,
while
did
not
show
significant
associations
demographic
or
disability
type.
Conclusion
highlight
findings
can
contribute
development
appropriate
public
intervention
plans
taking
into
consideration
especially
during
emergencies.

People
with
disabilities
are
“easy
targets”
because
they
often
lack
the
acquired
knowledge
of
appropriate
or
unacceptable
behaviour,
do
not
have
sufficient
social
skills,
sometimes
believe
that
their
disorders
and
dependence
on
others,
must
be
conciliatory
no
right
to
protest
rebel.
Also,
a
physical
psychological
deviation
suggests
person’s
weakness
in
others
can
cause
sense
dominance
superiority,
which
certain
situations
turn
into
intention
emotional
abuse.
Unfortunately,
statistics
show
greater
number
people
faced
some
types
violence
lesser
extent,
especially
female
population.
Violence
numerous
psychophysical
severe
consequences
who
already
struggling
health,
functional
and/or
mental
consequently
difficulties
realizing
required
quality
life
human
rights.
For
this
reason,
task
entire
society
should
aimed
at
preventing
spiral
mechanism
one
fateful
unfavourable
situation,
such
as
disability,
triggers
series
others.
Regardless
its
potential,
every
being
deserves
care
protection,
vulnerable
groups
whose
suffering,
pain
limitations
seen
inevitable
destiny.
However,
strength,
fighting
spirit
dedication
shown
by
proof
magnificence,
rewarded
verbal
blows,
but
tolerance,
respect,
appreciation.
