Exploring the nexus of tourism development, community perceptions, and sustainability in protected areas

Sustainable tourism integrates economic, social, and environmental aspects of sustainability. This study investigates the local community's perceptions development impacts factors influencing support for sustainable destination sustainability within Stara Planina Nature Park. Using a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach, using multiple hypothesized relationships across key dimensions, including environmental, infrastructural are examined. The findings highlight importance socio-cultural in fostering support, while also recognizing negative impact concerns. Socio-cultural significantly positively influenced initiatives, highlighting role cultural exchange, tradition preservation, community identity garnering support. These align with previous studies, emphasizing perceived benefits backing development. Effective STD management requires active involvement stakeholders to ensure alignment values goals. Policymakers should focus on enhancing benefits, addressing challenges, effectively communicating economic advantages. Limitations include its cross-sectional design, suggesting need longitudinal research better understand evolving impa ct tourism.

Enhancing Spatial Quality Through Community-Based Tourism

This study focuses on the declining spatial quality and limited community engagement in Mahabalipuram, a heritage town celebrated for its rich cultural architectural significance. Degraded public spaces, inadequate infrastructure, minimal involvement tourism are identified as pressing challenges that compromise historical sites sustainability appeal to visitors. Through mixed-method approach—encompassing field observations, interviews, surveys—the research examines key parameters, including continuity, comfort, scale, diversity, esthetics, alongside participation factors like socio-economic impacts. The analysis highlights deficits pedestrian accessibility, amenities, diminishing visitor experience. To address these challenges, proposes strategies developing environmental responsibility, promoting community-driven initiatives, increasing access, continuity safeguarding line with Sustainable Development Goals 10 11.
