Abstract. Nitrous oxide (N 2 O) is involved in both ozone destruction and global warming. In agricultural soils it produced by nitrification denitrification mainly after fertilization. Nitrification inhibitors have been proposed as one of the management tools for reduction potential hazards fertilizer‐derived N O. Addition to fertilizers maintains soil ammonium form, thereby gaseous losses are less likely occur there increased utilization sward. We present a study aimed evaluate effectiveness inhibitor dicyandiamide (DCD) slurry additive Actilith F2 on O emissions following application calcium nitrate or cattle mixed clover/ryegrass sward Basque Country. The results indicate that large differences emission depending fertilizer type presence absence inhibitor. There considerable scope immediate applying DCD with slurry. DCD, applied at 25 kg ha –1 , reduced amount lost 60% 42% when nitrate, respectively. did not reduce long lasting mineralization previously immobilized added N.
