Abstract Soil nitrogen status is tightly related to vegetation productivity and ecosystem carbon sequestration. Therefore, how increasing plant species diversity (PSD) during restoration or afforestation affects soil pool would ultimately determine its effects on Though diversifying has been found benefit accumulation, it influences microbial necromass (MNN), which a major constituent of pool, remains unexplored. Forty‐five plots with different PSD were selected in subtropical forest the being calcareous. MNN was indexed by amino sugars growth, use efficiency, other biotic abiotic variables simultaneously measured explore influence pool. Increasing significantly ( p < 0.05) stimulated growth contents fungal, bacterial, total MNN, but only marginally = 0.07) enhanced efficiency. Structural equation modelling revealed that PSD‐stimulated content enhancing biomass through three paths, is, promoting via availability relative abundance copiotrophic taxa, inputs plant‐derived available substrates, improving mineral protection elevating exchangeable calcium magnesium levels. However, did not alter contribution likely owing proportional increase organic marginal Synthesis applications : These findings highlight an effective measure for accumulation. Considering importance supporting sequestration, current study advocates incorporation afforestation.

Calcareous soils, prevalent in arid and semi-arid regions, often limit agricultural productivity due to their alkaline nature poor nutrient availability. This study assessed the effects of mineral sulfur (312 kg ha−1), nano-sulfur (12, 24, 36 compost (4.8 tons ha−1) on physical chemical properties saline calcareous soils impact maize wheat yields. The field experiment new extended agriculture Mallawy, Egypt, utilized a randomized complete block design. results showed that treatments outperformed sulfur. Specifically, combination ha−1 with 4.8 improved key soil properties, including bulk density, porosity, hydraulic conductivity. treatment also significantly reduced pH, electrical conductivity, exchangeable sodium while enhancing availability essential nutrients such as nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), total sulfate (SO42−). These enhancements health led notable increases both yields, well better crop uptake. findings suggest nano-sulfur, when used conjunction compost, is highly effective amendment for improving productivity, promoting sustainable practices regions. provides promising alternative excessive fertilizers, fostering long-term sustainability.

Nutrient deficiencies, low organic matter content, and a limited soil–water saturation percentage in calcareous soils hinder plant growth crop production. To address these challenges, sustainable green-based farming practices have been introduced. This study investigates the synergistic effects of biochar nitrogen levels as solutions for improving soil fertility supporting wheat soils. A pot experiment assessed (5-, 10-, 15-tons ha−1) (60, 90, 120 kg on physicochemical properties, nutrient availability, growth. The randomized complete block design included three replicates control. results highlight that highest rate (15 tons combined with level (120 significantly (p ≤ 0.05) improved properties status. Notably, pH increased by 2.8%, electrical conductivity 29.8%, 185%, while bulk density decreased 22.3%. Soil total surged 163.7%, 27.2%, plant-available phosphorus 66.8%, potassium 96.8%. Wheat parameters also showed marked improvement, height up 29.7%, spike length 20.7%, grains per 41.5%, thousand-grain weight 24.7%, grain yield 81.3%, biological 26.5%. There was strong positive correlation between enhanced growth, except density, which negative correlation. underscores role boosting productivity. principal component analysis further validated findings, suggesting integrating appropriate fertilization offers strategy to enhance health, manage strengthen yields soil. Biochar application elevated enhances productivity semi-arid regions, offering solution Future studies should explore long-term impacts scalability this approach.

Utilizing analysis triaxial testing, research revealed that prolonged disrupts acid-base balance solution, resulting an increased concentration ions chemicals. Significant dissolution carbonates soluble minerals occurs, which reacts with carbon dioxide to generate bicarbonate ions, thereby elevating alkalinity soaking solution. Additionally, gradual clay compromises cementitious structure, leading particle reorientation interlocking. The quantitatively assesses changes soil properties, demonstrating a substantial reduction cohesion by up 86.1% increase internal friction angle 37.5%. Furthermore, interlocking contribute observed changes. findings underscore importance understanding effects extended stability engineering applicability soils.
