Abstract Magnetic refrigeration based on the principle of magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in magnetic solids has been considered as a prospective cooling technology. Exploring suitable materials (MCMs) is vital prerequisite for practical applications. Herein, an excellent cryogenic MCM—the B ‐site‐ordered Gd 2 CuTiO 6 double perovskite (DP) oxide—which exhibits largest MCE among known Gd‐based DP oxides, identified. Such enhanced oxide likely stems from exchange interaction between Gd‐4 f and Cu‐3 d sublattices. Under field change 0–7 T, maximum entropy (−Δ S T max ) reaches 51.4 J kg −1 K (378.2 mJ cm −3 ), which much larger than that commercialized refrigerant 3 Ga 5 O 12 , 38.3 (271.2 it also superior to most recently reported benchmarked MCMs, indicating possibility This work provides productive route future MCM design by harnessing 4 f– interactions.
