As
a
new
zero-carbon
fuel,
ammonia
co-firing
in
coal-fired
boilers
is
one
of
the
feasible
technologies
for
reducing
carbon
emission.
This
study
validated
an
ammonia-coal
simulation
model
using
experimental
data
from
300
MW
unit
tangential
firing
boiler,
and
investigated
impacts
different
injection
methods
(uniform
injection,
lower
layer
concentrated
upper
injection)
at
20%
ratio
on
boiler
performance.
Key
findings
include
flow
fields
characteristics:
uniform
enhanced
pattern,
while
pure
burners
modes
exhibited
weaker
momentum
compared
to
coal
burners;
combustion
temperature
fields:
all
three
reduced
peak
furnace
temperatures
but
increased
flue
gas
outlet;
burnout
performance:
inhibited
burnout,
whereas
promoted
it;
NOx
emissions:
both
emissions,
significantly
them.
These
conclusions
provide
critical
guidance
retrofitting
power
plant
co-firing.

Ammonia
has
emerged
as
a
promising
carbon-free
fuel
for
mitigating
greenhouse
gas
emissions.
However,
its
application
in
practical
combustion
systems
is
limited
by
several
issues
including
low
heating
value
and
slow
flame
propagation
speed,
which
have
posed
challenges
maintaining
stable
combustion.

an
attempt
to
resolve
these
issues,
we

investigated
premixed
ammonia–air
using
detailed
chemical
mechanism
heat-recirculating,
Swiss-roll
burner
that
was
proposed
based
on
the
concept
of
“excess-enthalpy.”
