Qualitative work suggests that young people’s motives for playing drinking games (DGs) extend beyond those assessed in the Motives Playing Drinking Games (MPDG) measure. Using a mixed-methods approach, we tested whether 7-factor model of MPDG would emerge among university students from Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina, their open-ended responses regarding reasons map onto subscales. Students ( N = 895; ages 18–30 yrs) completed MPDG-33 measure an open-ended-question DGs. We found support across sites. Open-ended revealed were motivated to play variety reasons, some which overlapped with subscales while others did not. present conceptual considers specific alcohol consumption context DG reasons/possible given its features.

AbstractAbstractBackground Many young adults who are enrolled in a university play drinking games (DG), risky practice that is known to facilitate heavy alcohol consumption. DG participation associated with increased risk for harm and as such, identifying students at experiencing harms key. Standardized instruments designed assess behavior related outcomes limited by having no established cutoffs identify those individuals hazardous use. In the present study, we developed short form of Brief Young Adult Alcohol Consequences Questionnaire-Drinking Games (B-YAACQ-DG) use among student samples based on differential item functioning (DIF)-free items across gender, indicating using receiver-operating characteristic curves AUDIT scores 6+ reference standard.Method Students (N = 1,299; ages 18–25; 67.7% women; 71.0% White) from four large public universities United States completed confidential online survey. Results Although gender-based DIF several B-YAACQ-DG emerged, there were 16-items DIF-free men women. An optimal cutoff score detection full version (23-items) was 4+ consequences past month, 3+ 16-item version. Conclusions Health practitioners researchers can alongside AUDIT, DGs need intervention. This study aims to investigate the relationships between personality traits of impulsivity, using UPPS-P Impulsive Behaviour Scales shortened version, and prefrontal cortex (PFC) activity during IOWA Gambling Task (IGT) in young adult women. The included a sample 83 young, healthy females (19.8 ± 1.4 years), who voluntarily took part study. Repeated measures analysis IGT revealed significant increase HbO (all p <.001; ηp2 >.31) decrease Hbr <.003; >.08) all quadrants. oxygenation occurs primarily choice period under ambiguity (r =.23; =.039). Additionally, there was linear selecting decks associated with high frequency losses (p <.001), while favorable deck low showed (F = 12.96; <.001). Notably, discrepancies were found impulsivity ratings. Lack Perseverance Premeditation scales from identified as predictors levels, mainly two quadrants left hemisphere's, lateral (adjusted R2 f2 =.34) rostral =.13; <.002; =.17). These findings suggest that women predominantly adopt punishment-avoidance strategy IGT, exhibiting increased activation hemisphere, especially task's initial phase characterized by ambiguity.
