Background As adolescents increasingly engage with digital experiences, the internet serves as a platform for social interaction, entertainment, and learning. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated this trend, remote learning restricted physical interactions driving changes in behavior. Adolescents spent more time on gaming media, reflecting notable shift use patterns. Objective We hypothesized that changed patterns among Korean adolescents, including content types, web-based activities, pathological prevalence. Additionally, we anticipated these would correlate shifts adolescents’ psychological status during pandemic. Methods Data from 827 aged 12 to 15 years (n=144 2018, n=142 2019, n=126 2020, n=130 2021, n=143 2022, 2023) were gathered over 6 43 middle schools across 16 regions 1 hospital South Korea. demographic data collected included age, sex, school year. Participants also provided information their levels of addiction. status, mood, anxiety, attention, self-esteem, was assessed. Results There significant differences depression scale (Patient Health Questionnaire 9). Patient 9 scores 2023 decreased compared those 2022 (F5=3.07; P=.007). Regarding behavior, game playing after before, while watching videos increased. rate problematic highest games before COVID-19, but it videos, trend continued until (χ23=8.16, P=.04). Furthermore, study showed Young’s Internet Addiction Scale (YIAS) score group 2018 other groups (F5=14.63; P<.001). In both video had higher YIAS than (F5=9.37; P<.001), by game, video, Social Network Service did not differ significantly. degree influence severity addiction greatest effect greater games. Conclusions During pandemic, academic commercial purposes, classes videoconferences, increased rapidly worldwide, leading rise overall time. demand dependence platforms is expected grow even further coming era. Abstract Aim The aim of this study is to estimate the rate patients who screened positive for gaming disorder (GD) in ICD‐11 among adolescents with psychiatric and/or developmental disorders by using two screening tests: a nine‐item test GD, GAMing Engagement Screening (GAMES Test), and Ten‐Item Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGDT‐10). Methods Subjects were 257 adolescent attending clinic Sapporo, Japan. They asked complete questionnaires. total score on IGDT‐10 was calculated different scoring methods, original version (OV) modified (MV). three groups also compared basis their clinical diagnoses. Results Of 203 respondents, 42 (20.7%) GAMES Test. With respect IGDT‐10, only eight (3.9%) OV scoring, while 55 (27.1%) MV. most notable finding that mean scores MV significantly higher attention deficit hyperactivity group than other (depression autism spectrum disorder). Conclusion results showed mental health problems had positivity self‐rated tools GD general population. Because excessive has wide range adverse effects adolescents' health, early detection probable crucial. should be part routine practice.

Abstract Background Research increasingly demonstrates a positive association between Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) and conduct problems among adolescents. However, longitudinal data are limited, the mediating mechanisms remain unclear. This study aimed to examine predictive effect of IGD on explore role impaired sleep quality. Method A cohort 20,137 Chinese seventh- tenth-grade students was recruited assessed at three time points: November 2020 (T1), 2021 (T2), 2022 (T3). IGD, problems, quality were measured using Scale Short Form, Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, respectively. Mediation analyses conducted evaluate direct indirect with subgroup based sex developmental stage. Results found be an independent risk factor for both cross-sectionally longitudinally. Impaired partially mediated relationship accounting approximately 17.3% total effect. Subgroup revealed that mediation more pronounced in early adolescents varied by sex, stronger boys. Conclusions These findings highlight need comprehensive interventions targeting quality, tailored specific sexes stages, effectively reduce problems.

Background: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Adolescents with ADHD have an elevated risk of developing Internet Gaming (IGD), involving excessive gaming that disrupts daily life. IGD linked to traits such as low frustration tolerance sensation-seeking, comorbid conditions like anxiety depression further increasing vulnerability. frequently serves coping strategy due emotional regulation difficulties. The dynamics within family units peer relationships play pivotal role, dysfunctional environments heightening the risks positive interactions serving protective factors. Methods: This scoping review analyzed empirical studies published in last decade exploring association between ADHD, Problematic Use (PIU), or IGD, focusing on neurobiological, psychological, environmental Results: findings highlight impulsivity dysregulation contribute IGD. used maladaptive strategy, social influences modulating risk. Diagnostic complexities arise distinguishing ADHD-related behaviors from symptoms. Conclusions: Addressing these requires interdisciplinary collaboration evidence-based interventions. Future research should focus understanding PIU, targeted Longitudinal are necessary establish causal links assess effective treatment strategies.
