As e-commerce has become more prevalent, the required logistics operations are challenged by greater demand for and higher complexity of order picking in warehouses. While goods-to-person (G2P) systems, such as robotic mobile fulfillment becoming popular, there still challenges G2P including unstable performance human due to fatigue errors, constrained mobility robots. To tackle these challenges, this article presents a new storage system, which we call RubikCell. It leverages strengths existing warehouse systems incorporates automatic dispensing, robot-to-goods picking, pick-while-sort operations. In RubikCell, robots equipped with trays store transport items an order, instead moving heavy pods workstations systems. addition, concept cellular warehousing (CW)—inspired manufacturing—aims operate large smaller cells. This approach reduces substantial traveling distances robots, they move within their dedicated cells rather than entire warehouse. A mathematical programming model is developed address cell formation problem CW. Lastly, implementation CW principles forming Robotic Systems, renders flexible, scalable, reconfigurable. Numerical experiments conducted on innovative system have confirmed effectiveness method.
