Emerging technologies have significantly contributed to the evolution of traditional product-service systems (PSS) into smart PSS. This transformation demands a fresh perspective and more inventive design approach. In response, this study proposes new User-Centred Collective System Design (CSD) framework process for Smart PSS design, aiming enhance stakeholder engagement during entire process, thus promoting highly effective creative solutions. A case study, titled 'Next-G Fitness Design', was carried out test implement approach, contrasting results CSD method with designer-centred method. The outcomes showed marked improvement in product novelty user desirability when using proposed framework. could offer beneficial insights user-centric viewpoints practitioners dealing complex challenges linked design.

Published: Jan. 1, 2025

Abstract Is there a fundamental “grand unified theory” that can systematically explain and predict innovations inventions in precision medicine? An approach is more than 70 years old may be able to answer this question. The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) has revolutionized the space innovation problem-solving since its inception mid-twentieth century. Based on analysis hundreds thousands many fields, it extrapolated matrix contradictory patterns (problems) generalizable principles solve these problems. Research TRIZ culminates three findings: (1) Problems solutions are repeated across industries sciences. (2) Patterns technical evolution replicated (3) have scientific effects outside field which they were developed. This chapter suggests large parts Precision Medicine (PM) could interpreted as an application principles. Basically, PM seen implementation first principle, segmentation. For example, one most important applications PM, targeted cancer therapy, based segmentation tumors or tumor genetics analogous principle (segmentation). Another example single-cell multi-omics subtyping (patient, disease segmentation) for directing state-of-the-art therapeutics oncology other medical fields. Artificial intelligence machine learning playing increasing role process. question whether further point way get side therapies under control.

Marine microplastic pollution has emerged as a pressing environmental issue, with significant implications for aquatic ecosystems, human health and global biodiversity. Ports, acting semi-enclosed environments, are critical zones where plastic waste, including microplastics, fragments smaller than 5 mm, tend to accumulate. These settings provide controlled conditions that ideal deploying innovative solutions monitor mitigate the impact of pollution. This paper presents design, development initial testing an autonomous surface drone engineered specifically collect microplastics in port environments. Unlike traditional marine drones, this device operates exclusively at water surface, leveraging mechanical filtration systems capture quantify fragments. Designed cost-efficiency, ease manufacturing operational simplicity, aligns principles sustainability scalability. By integrating readily available materials modular components, it offers replicable model addressing localized systems.

Integrating smart industrial products (SIPs) into production processes introduces new dynamics of capabilities and challenges within organisations. However, a prevalent issue is the ad hoc adoption SIPs without cohesive strategy, resulting in isolated solutions that do not effectively enhance core organisational functions. Our research fills this critical gap by identifying combining barriers posed SIPs. findings allow us to propose framework comprising stages each main function needs develop move from traditional completely autonomous decision-making function.
