The selection of key soil physical properties (SPPs) for studying the impact livestock treading is an unexplored research topic, especially in studies that analyze influence management on degradation process. objective this work was to demonstrate SPPs depend objectives and environmental characteristics study site. This used discriminant analysis establish most significant among following: bulk density (BD), total porosity (P), field capacity (FC), infiltration (IC), aggregate stability (AS). Results showed (1) IC BD are identifying areas affected (bare patch) unaffected (vegetated by treading, (2) none under increasing stocking rates, (3) property analyzing with rate, using calcium carbonate content, slope exposure, grass cover. We concluded relationship between rate not linear because it depends factors; therefore, SPPs, necessary take fact into account.

ABSTRACT The management of cultivated areas has been the subject scientific and political debate because its adverse effects on soil health associated ecosystem services. A route to bring degraded back sustainable production systems includes implementing adequate practices and, in parallel, monitor their results. Monitoring must be based periodical evaluation quality indicators. selection indicators is, however, a challenge, suited simultaneously rigorous practical assess field. Thus, aim novelty this study was summarize dispersed literature, propose an assortment those capable being used conservation policies plans considering aforementioned requisites. To our best knowledge, kind exhaustive summary with focus policy is lacking. accomplish proposed goal, systematic literature review carried out using Scopus database. articles followed guidelines PRISMA methodology (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews Meta‐Analyses). results revealed that, such as organic carbon, structure assessments, erosion monitoring are public due cost‐effectiveness ease field application. Besides, they through technologies like remote sensing portable sensors. Additional from exposed that current understanding across various Brazilian biomes limited by geographic methodological biases existing studies, it essential invest infrastructure, standardization stakeholder training fill gaps. Finally, present emphasized need conduct future studies interdisciplinary collaboration, measure reach common language view over how use proxies health, ultimately promote land Brazil.

Soil microbial communities play an important role in driving diverse ecosystem functions and ecological processes are the main force for maintaining biogeochemical cycles. To investigate effects of nitrogen fertilizer addition on soil community characteristics multifunctionality alfalfa fields, a field experiment was conducted semi-arid region Loess Plateau. Ecological network analysis revealed strong cooperative relationship among bacterial species under N100 treatment, while competitive observed fungal N50 treatment. Furthermore, compared with control check, carbon nutrient function, grassland productivity N150 treatment increased by 45.17%, 34.01%, 7.92%, phosphorus function decreased 13.44%. Additionally, pH significantly influences multifunctionality, productivity. water content notably affects diversity has significant impact potassium function. The above results suggest that alterations levels influence regulating diversity, offering new insights into mechanisms which nutrients properties.

Abstract Weed encroachment indicates pasture degradation and is a major challenge for adequate management. Additionally, it might compromise the soil organic carbon (SOC) stock, affecting global climate change. Common bermudagrass [ Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.] worldwide grown forage species, but broadleaf weed species often encroach during warm season without appropriate Spiny pigweed ( Amaranthus spinosus L.) one of widely encountered weeds in pastures across globe. We quantified SOC encroached with different levels spiny after 3 years. Different methods (fixed depth vs. equivalent mass [ESM] approaches) were evaluated estimates. The treatments paddocks free (weed‐free), established alternated strips (weed‐strips), spread throughout whole area (weed‐infested) randomized complete block design four replicates. Bermudagrass herbage accumulation rate (HAR) belowground responses as explanatory variables. reduced HAR biomass accumulation. fixed method overestimated topsoil layer, while differences between ESM approaches negligible. concentration was greater weed‐free than weed‐infested areas. cumulative stock (0–15 cm) estimated on an basis 15% lower (33.6 Mg ha −1 ) compared to or weed‐strips (39.5 ). significantly impacts short term, leading stocks pastures.

ABSTRACT Soil steady water infiltration rate (SIR) is a key variable in hydrological modeling, but its relationship to antecedent soil moisture not yet well understood. We tested the hypothesis that SIR decreases with increase moisture, and this depends on permeability surface, measurement method, period. conducted an experiment Argissolo Vermelho-Amarelo Distrófico abrúptico (Psammentic Paleudult – Taxonomy), measuring up 14 conditions under two structural (no-till no-till subsoiling), methods (double ring Cornell infiltrometers), for 48 h, ten replications. In addition, vertical effective hydraulic conductivity of saturated profile (Kef) was determined Darcy’s equation N layers. Crop succession used area black oats ryegrass winter soybean summer. The decreased as little 7.7 % original value moisture; it ~200 greater treatment subsoiling compared alone, ~80 when measured infiltrometer than double infiltrometer. Nevertheless, effects method condition declined confirming our hypothesis. initially nearly (degree saturation ~90 %), drew near Kef (12.7 mm h -1 ) conditions, especially contrast, increasing time (>2 h) did generate new lower level. surface layers method. infiltrometers better corresponds nearer before beginning measurement.
