Abstract In grassland ecosystems, the aerodynamic roughness ( Z 0 ) and frictional wind speed u *) contribute to impedance of canopy. Thus, they are often used in studies erosion evapotranspiration. However, effect grazing measures on canopy has received less analysis. this study, we monitored speeds at multiple heights grazed grazing-prohibited grasslands for 1 month 2021, determined transit 2.0 m height by comparing differences same both grasslands, divided these intervals m/s analyze relationship among , *, within The results showed that dividing into a positive logarithmic fit profile. After intervals, 0.1 V gradually decreased with increase exhibiting three distinct stages: sharp change zone, steady flat zone; while overall trend * increased first then . Three managed areas reference area were evaluated: permanent pasture (PP), no-till (NT), no-till+Brachiaria (NT+B) native forest (NF). Deformed samples collected layers 0-0.05; 0.05-0.10; 0.10-0.20 0.20-0.40 m, unformed 0-0.05 0.05-0.10 m. After collection, total carbon (TOC) analysis, chemical fractioning SOM aggregate stability analysis performed. The PP presented highest TOC C-FA contents first three evaluated. In m layer, C-HUM NT+B 1.9 times higher than NT area, they 6.6 higher. obtained best structural indicators, especially WMD, GMD % macroaggregates. two using direct seeding percentage macroaggregates 37.28% superficial layer. management provided increases levels and, consequently, substances, besides formation more stable aggregates. system showed promise increasing at depth, even with short implementation period. increase substances by grasses contributes to aggregates improvement quality soils. Highly digestible forages are associated with an in vitro low-methane (CH 4 ) rumen fermentation profile and thus the possibility of reducing CH emissions from forage-based systems. We aimed to assess ruminal profile, including production, top stratum Kikuyu grass ( Cenchrus clandestinus - Hochst. ex Chiov harvested at different sward heights (10, 15, 20, 25, 30 cm). Herbage samples (incubating substrate) were analyzed for their chemical composition, organic matter digestibility (IVOMD), morphological components. In incubations performed under a randomized complete block design four independent runs each treatment. Gas production (GP), dry (IVDMD), total volatile fatty acid (VFA) concentration, acetate, propionate, butyrate proportions measured following 24 48 h incubation. had similar contents matter, neutral detergent fiber, crude protein all treatments. However, higher fiber (ADF) content taller than smaller tendency metabolizable energy (ME) IVOMD decrease as height increased found. Similarly, stem + sheath mass tended increase increasing height. Amongst nutrients, ME r = −0.65) IVDMD −0.64) negatively correlated p < 0.001) ADF was positively 0.73, 0.001). Both GP related both incubation times. Sward below cm display VFAs high propionate low trend toward lower methane per unit IVDMD. Based on the Hulunbeier meadow steppe, variation characteristics of nitrogen content and storage layers between 0–40 cm, under six different intensities, response vegetation other physical chemical properties were studied. The main results as follows: (1) Moderate increased total (TN), soluble (STN) microbial biomass (MBN) contents, while heavy decreased MBN content. In year with more rain, nitrate (NO3−-N) storage, less rain ammonium (NH4+-N) (2) proportion cm components showed an upward trend opposite years rainfall increase intensity. The objective this paper was to determine whether the intensification pasture-based animal systems, through practices such as fertilization improved pasture species, has a higher capacity short-term (five years) sequester carbon soil compared (1) natural grassland without anthropogenic interactions, (2) fertilized overseeded with exotic (3) annual pastures frequent disturbance. study assessed organic stock (OCS), total (TOC), particle size, porosity, density at different strata, well root system forage production. Forage dry matter (DM) varied significantly means ranging from 6615 13,000 kg ha–1 year–1 for (NG) permanent (PP), respectively. Improved (ING) NG presented diameter than PP (AP). systems influenced porosity density, ING showing lower densities porosities. OCS (0–100 cm) similar between (270 Mg ha–1), (255 (274 AP (256 ha–1). Abstract Background Selective grazing creates stable patches of contrasting sward height, thereby providing different growth conditions for the grass above and below ground potentially affecting soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. We hypothesized that presence leads to greater spatial variability in belowground biomass (BGB) SOC stocks than occurs between pastures managed under stocking intensities. Methods A long‐term experiment consisting three intensities was used this study. studied BGB, SOC, total nitrogen (N tot ) 0–15 cm depth. Shannon diversity plant species, bulk density, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium contents were considered. Results There no significant effects patch or intensity on N Short had a tall ( p < 0.05) plant‐available nutrients correlated positively with height 0.05). The geometric distribution topological indexes (aggregates, macropores roots) were obtained by CT scanning three-dimensional image processing. results showed that enclosed natural grassland had highest staining area ratio (40.38%) depth (271 mm). aggregates artificial C. more uniform. Enclosure significantly reduced number density volume aggregates, roots (p<0.05). Compared with increased (p<0.05), average equivalent diameter decreased negatively affects macropores. Aggregates directly promote process, indirectly affect process through aggregates. Clarifying relationship enclosure, can provide a basis for vegetation restoration management arid semi-arid areas.

Understanding the grazing process and animal response to sward structures (e.g., height) is key setting targets for efficient management. We hypothesized that short-term intake rate (STIR) of dry matter (DM) digestible organic (OM) by dairy heifers maximized with Kikuyu grass ( Cenchrus clandestinus— Hochst. ex Chiov.) intermediate heights. The treatments consisted five pre-grazing heights (10, 15, 20, 25, 30 cm) randomly assigned two ten paddocks. experimental design included measurements each paddock at different periods times day. Three Holstein (440 ± 42 kg body weight) were used determine STIR, which was estimated using double-weighing technique correction insensible weight losses. bite mass (BM), (BR), structural characteristics, nutritional value herbage samples assessed. data analyzed mixed models a factorial arrangement heights, day, evaluation periods. height both STIRs approximately 20 cm. STIR DM 30% 15% lower than maximum in shortest tallest swards tested, respectively. In shorter cm, because BM decreased height, whereas those greater explained decrease bulk density volume. top stratum composed mainly highly leaf blades similar nutrient content across heights; therefore OM also Hence, optimal should be managed cm under rotational stocking systems maximize heifers.
