Regular physical activity (PA) helps to reduce the severity of and mental symptoms improves quality life in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Based on current evidence expert opinion, recent guidelines recommend at least 150 minutes/week PA. This study presents results a survey analyzing whether how PwMS met before during pandemic. We developed disseminated an international online between December 2020 July 2021, investigating changes self-reported PA type, duration, frequency, intensity due COVID-19 outbreak differing disability levels.Among respondents (n = 3810), 3725 were eligible. The proportion those who conducted one decreased increasing level both time points (pre during). Overall 60% pandemic (mild: 64.43%; moderate: 51.53%; severe: 39.34%; χ 2(2) 109.13, P < 0.01); reduction approximately 10% occurred all groups 54.76%; 42.47%; 29.48%; 109.67, 0.01). Respondents higher participated more therapy less walking, cycling, running points. Most reported practicing moderate points; frequency duration sessions as increased. The percentage meeting reduced pandemic. type varied widely across categories. Background/Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted healthcare systems globally, altering the management of chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis (MS) and interrupting regular monitoring support that people with MS (pwMS) typically need. aim this study was to examine changes in utilization resources over various periods during 2020 2021, assess how these affected perceptions pwMSregarding their care. Methods: A longitudinal survey conducted at Center University Hospital Dresden, Germany, involving four from April December 2021. assessed use resources, including consultations specialists, rehabilitative therapy facilities, unmet needs, across phases pandemic, encompassing both lockdown less restrictive periods. Results: At onset 2020, first lockdown, 750 questionnaires were evaluated. While most pwMS reported consistent medical care compared pre-pandemic levels, 19.2% had fewer general practitioner visits, 10.6% neurologist visits. During follow-up periods, generally remained stable, although there notable reductions by a subset participants. Conclusions: findings suggest therapeutic for Germany largely accessible However, also reveals certain gaps may be addressed incorporating digital technologies into rehabilitation, potentially enhancing future pandemics or similar situations.

Abstract Background We evaluated the effects of a 12-week internet-based exercise and physical activity promotion program for persons with multiple sclerosis. Methods performed multicenter, randomized, waitlist-controlled study. The intervention group (IG) received program, followed by 12 weeks usual care. control (CG) care only. main components were: (1) tailored home-based prescription, (2) e-learning resources, (3) telephone video meetings an therapist, (4) provision consumer-based PA monitor. Measurements were taken at baseline, postintervention, after 24 weeks. primary outcome was device-measured steps/day. Other outcomes moderate-to-vigorous activity, subjectively measured leisure-time transportation sport/exercise, activity-related health competence, walking ability, quality life, fatigue, depression, PA-related self-concordance. compared changes from baseline to postintervention between groups analyzed in IG during follow-up. Results Analysis 56 sclerosis (IG: n = 29, CG: 27, age: 45.6 ± 10.9) revealed no significant effect on However, improvements observed life (physical). During follow-up, sport/exercise decreased significantly. Leisure-time increased Conclusions Our study provides first evidence that developed can increase aspects A trial larger sample is recommended confirm our results examine mechanisms. Impaired sensorimotor function, reduced physical activity and unemployment are common challenges in persons with multiple sclerosis (pwMS), even when disability is low. CoreDISTparticipation a new, multidisciplinary intervention delivered across healthcare levels systematically addressing these elements. This study primarily aimed to evaluate the feasibility of terms process, resources, management, scientific outcomes. The secondary aim was initial efficacy possible short-term effects compared usual care on barriers employment, balance, walking, health-related quality life (HRQoL), activity.

Background: Quarantine was one of the strategies adopted by governments against spread COVID-19. This restriction has caused an increase in sedentary behaviors and a decrease practice physical activity (PA), with consequent negative impact on lifestyle both healthy people those who need constant PA to combat diseases, such as patients suffering from neuromuscular diseases (NMDs). Hence, this study aimed compare levels among NMD during after quarantine. Methods: An adapted version International Physical Activity Questionnaire Short-Form Health Survey were administered COVID-19 quarantine (T0) 3 years (T1) 91 Italian NMDs. Results: We found significant total level at T1, no changes vigorous-intensity PA. Moreover, different No component scores mental detected. Conclusions: Our results suggest that it would be necessary provide alternative indoor exercise settings prevent adoption behaviors.
