Published: Jan. 1, 2023

Computer vision is widely recognized as an influential technology in the precision management of animals. Emerging studies have demonstrated potential to improve pig health and welfare with intelligent systems using camera surveillance computer algorithms. However, lack benchmark datasets robust algorithms restricts development models artificial intelligence applications. In this study, we create a general-purpose dataset (PigLife) that contains video clips images across most production phases commercial systems: Breeding Gestation, Farrow Wean, Weaning & Nursery, Growth Finish. The then used evaluate performance up-to-date foundational detection segmentation first subset PigLife has 42 short (5 sec ~ 2 min) 22K instances various visual difficulties covered scenarios single pig, multiple pigs (up 17 pigs), farrowing sow resulting offspring. We apply develop (Faster RCNN, RetinaNet, TridentNet) (Mask R-CNN, MViTv2, Point-Rend); pretrained (YOLO8-m, Faster-RCNN-r50,), assess zero-shot (CLIP-SAM Grouddino-HQSAM). results indicate provided rich background for evaluating robustness identified remaining challenges respect Meanwhile, significant improvement performances show great promote technologies applications industry.
