Abstract Greater Cairo is one of the largest metropolitan areas in world, yet tempo-spatial trends PM 2.5 and loaded metal(loid)s) its atmosphere, their potential health risks, are poorly understood. We investigated air concentrations , associated Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, V Zn, urban industrial locations within for year each location. Statistical analysis suggested that chemical composition more influenced by land-use local activities rather than meteorological conditions. Both annual daily levels were well above WHO quality guidelines, with averages c. 37 56 µg m −3 maximums 165 176 areas, respectively. Health risk modelling indicated residents facing non-carcinogenic carcinogenic (up 47 28 times recommended hazard indices, respectively) from studied 12 metal(loid)s combined. For all elements combined, some other individual elements, a significant route but only risks. contribution negligible.
