Abstract This work used a one-step calcination process to prepare g-C 3 N 4 composites with varying Y 2 O loading. XRD, TEM, and XPS verified the structure morphology of composite photocatalyst, its photoelectrochemical hydrogen production performance were studied. According experimental results, it is found that between effectively suppresses photoelectron–hole complex enhances photocatalytic properties . Under irradiation 300 W xenon lamp, YCN-3 had superior generation performance, achieving rate 1079.61 μ mol g −1 h , which was 2.3 times greater than in unmodified state. After three consecutive operations, satisfactory stability reusability obtained. Finally, possibility mechanism for charge transfer pathway discussed, provides an effective way production.
