The degradation of black soil cropland has occurred to varying degrees in the northern agropastoral ecotone. Crop–forage rotation is an effective way improve quality, with Medicago being preferred perennial legume. Abstract Aims Apple–soybean alley cropping is one of the typical alley-cropping models in Loess Plateau China. The study aimed to alleviate interspecific competition intensified by growth fruit trees using combination drip irrigation emitter line and mulching regulate soil nutrient distribution analyze effects on utilization. Methods A three-year field trial was conducted apple–soybean systems, setting up three spacings (L1: per soybean row; L2: for every two rows; L3: rows) methods (M1: mulching; M0: non-mulching). Results Rapidly available phosphorus (AP), rapidly potassium total contents varied greatly at same spacing, whereas AP content different spacings. Compared with M0, yield, use efficiency M1 significantly increased. Most nutrients denser spacing (L1) were concentrated surface layer uniform distribution. At wider (L3), uneven, resulting fewer uptake utilization roots. moderate (L2) alleviated optimizing facilitating root niche separation between crops. In years, M1L2 consistently displayed highest efficiency. Principal component analysis showed that achieved comprehensive score. Conclusions results recommended young L1 as a preferable control measure if M0 used.
