Rapid synthesis of Ru nanoparticles loaded on hollow mesoporous carbon spheres via a microwave-assisted solvothermal method. The catalyst had excellent HER properties ( η 10 = 18.9 mV, in 1.0 M KOH), which outperformed commercial Pt/C catalysts.
