Metabolomic analysis has been explored to search for disease biomarkers in humans some time. The application animal species, including fish, however, is still at the beginning. In present study, we have used targeted and untargeted metabolomics identify metabolites plasma of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) challenged with Piscine orthoreovirus (PRV-1), aiming find associated progression PRV-1 infection into heart skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI). metabolomes control PRV-1-infected were compared three time points during development by employing different biostatistical approaches. Targeted resulted determination affected metabolic pathways, revealing a substantial impact on lipid homeostasis, especially several (lyso)phosphatidylcholines, ceramides, triglycerides. Untargeted showed clear separation treatment groups later study points, mainly due effects metabolism pathways. subsequent multi-omics approach, combined both datasets previously reported proteomics data generated from same samples. Data processing DIABLO software identification significant proteins that representative HSMI salmon.
