Microplastic (MP) pollution is a major environmental problem, but comparative study of the toxicological effects different MPs remains lacking. To explore three microplastics, namely, polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS) and polyethylene (PE), Zhenhai brown frog (Rana zhenhaiensis) tadpoles were used as model animal. The results showed that exposure to PE PS significantly reduced metamorphosis rate tadpoles. Compared with control group, body weight in all MP treatments was compared group. In addition, length hind limb number pigment cells increased intercellular spaces expanded liver tissues receiving treatments. composition function intestinal microbiota PP treatment groups similar, whereas between control, they differed. Liver transcriptome sequencing revealed significant alterations key genes associated oxidative stress, energy metabolism, immune response, apoptosis signaling pathways treatment. summary, may have harmed varying degrees by interfering related pathways. negative greater than those PP.

This study examined the effects of hot high-fat simulants on physicochemical properties microplastics (MPs) from polypropylene (PP)-, low-density polyethylene (LDPE)-, and polylactic acid (PLA)-based single-use food container (SUFC) leachates those aging their immunomodulatory effectors. Scenario studies have demonstrated that MPs were released these three types SUFCs. LDPE- PLA-based SUFCs also cellulose. Among SUFCs, only PP particles exhibited a new absorption peak at 1725 cm-1, which phenomenon may be attributed to presence unstable tertiary carbon atoms. Subsequently, we investigated removing additive both thermal-aged with polystyrene (PS) carboxyl-modified PS (PS-COOH) polymer backbones as reference materials. The findings indicated PS-COOH induced comparable innate immune responses, exhibiting similar size SUFC percolates. Consequently, selected original MPs, respectively, evaluate immunity. results revealed thata protein corona formed particle types, more adsorption observed particles. complex enhanced phagocytosis RAW264.7 macrophages increased expression pro-inflammatory genes NOS2 TNF-α through an actin polymerization cross-linking mechanism. In this study, how affect responses using model system, emphasizing importance comprehensive safety evaluations MPs.
