The global increase in the older adult population necessitates a comprehensive understanding of medication management to mitigate risks associated with potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs). These are particular concern due their association adverse drug reactions, increased hospitalization, and healthcare costs. This study aimed determine prevalence risk factors PIM use among patients attending primary health care centers Bahrain. cross-sectional was conducted 2022 27 across included aged 65 years or older. A computer based simple random sample obtained, Beers criteria 2023 utilized assess appropriateness. Anonymous data retrieved from electronic medical records analyzed via univariate, logistic regression analyses. Among 595 studied, average age 71.7 years, 54.5% (n = 324) being female. Most were married (70.8%, n 421). More than half (51.3%, 305) received at least one PIM, gliclazide (37%, 113), pantoprazole (29.8%, 91), rabeprazole (27.9%, 85) most prevalent prescribed PIM. Univariate analyses revealed that rates significantly higher females (p 0.001) comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus < 0.001), essential hypertension hyperlipidaemia 0.001). Logistic analysis (OR 1.09, p female sex 1.645, 0.012), 1.696, 0.029) significant predictors use. highlights burden Bahrain, more participants receiving findings underscore urgent need for targeted interventions, particularly patients, those chronic conditions mellitus, taking five medications. insights contribute broader geriatric pharmacotherapy offer foundation policy development optimizing safety aging populations.
