Aim There is limited evidence concerning the association between anemia and alterations in muscle health among hospitalized older patients. We aimed to evaluate associations baseline hemoglobin (Hb) levels changes function patients undergoing rehabilitation after stroke. Methods This retrospective cohort study included consecutive post‐stroke Data on serum Hb level were extracted from medical records tests performed within 24 h of admission. The main outcomes discharge score for skeletal mass index (SMI) obtained through bioimpedance analysis corresponding change SMI during hospitalization. Other handgrip strength (HGS) at alteration HGS Multivariate linear regression analyses used determine admission interest, adjusted potential confounders. Results 955 (mean age 73.2 years; 53.6% men) analysis. median was 13.3 [11.9, 14.5] g/dL. After fully adjusting confounding factors, significantly positively associated with (β = 0.046, P 0.039) gain 0.010, 0.039). Further, independently 0.058, 0.014) its 0.100, 0.014). Conclusion Diminished demonstrated be correlated compromised Evaluating outset serves as a crucial prognostic indicator. Geriatr Gerontol Int 2024; 24: 305–311 .

Abstract Background Sarcopenia is an age-related condition characterized by a progressive loss of skeletal muscle mass. It leads to declining physical performance, potentially culminating in diminished quality life or death. This study investigated the prevalence sarcopenia and its associated risk factors among Thai community-dwelling individuals advanced age. Methods Between March 2021 August 2022, we conducted nationwide community-based epidemiological survey across all six major regions Thailand. Participants with were identified according 2019 criteria Asian Working Group for (AWGS). The examined using multivariable logistic regression. Results Of 2456 participants, overall was 18.1%, nearly two-thirds (66.9%) classified as having severe sarcopenia. Multivariate analysis They are lower body mass index (odds ratio [OR] = 11.7, 95% confidence interval [CI] 7.8–17.4), suboptimal leg calf circumference (OR 6.3, CI 4.3–9.5), male sex 2.8, 2.2–3.7), history chronic obstructive pulmonary disease 2.3, 2.3–5.0), age 2.1, 1.3–3.3), increasing time timed up-and-go test 1.1, 1.0–1.1). Conclusions first large-scale national represent AWGS criteria. Interventions such lifestyle modifications appropriate nutrition should be promoted throughout adulthood maintain strength delay onset sarcopenia, particularly males. Over the past decade, elderly Filipino population has significantly increased, rising from 4.6 million seniors, which was approximately 6% of total in 2000, to 6.5 million, or around 6.9% 2010. Projections suggest that by 2030, percentage aged 60 and above will increase between 10 19%, indicating a significant demographic shift toward an aging population. This predominantly young rapidly growing underscores urgent need for effective health promotion management programs targeting older adults. Sarcopenia, muscle-wasting disorder, represents global challenge, particularly affecting elderly. In Philippines, impact sarcopenia is expected become more pronounced, potentially straining both individuals national healthcare system over next 15 years, despite country's relatively younger overall Despite expanding research on there remains raise awareness implement proactive measures address this escalating issue.

Background/Objectives: Sarcopenia and malnutrition are common in post-stroke patients, impairing recovery. Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) may support muscle metabolism, while chair-stand exercises improve strength mobility. However, their combined effects remain unclear. This study evaluated the synergistic of MCT supplementation high-frequency exercise on physical function health patients. Methods: A retrospective cohort included 1080 patients categorized into three groups: (1) alone, (2) (3) both combined. consisted ~40 g/day oil or powder. Functional outcomes were assessed using Independence Measure (FIM-motor), was by handgrip (HGS) skeletal index (SMI). Multiple linear regression analyses performed, adjusting for confounders. Results: The intervention group showed significantly greater improvements FIM-motor scores at discharge (B = 8.79, 95% CI: 5.64–11.95, β 0.32, p < 0.001) gain 6.02, 3.42–8.62, 0.29, compared to control. Increases HGS 2.441, 0.483–4.398, 0.18, 0.015) SMI 0.194, 0.102–0.419, 0.12, 0.039) also observed. Chair-stand performed a median 62 times/day independently improved outcomes, alone had limited effects. Conclusions: with enhances functional recovery supporting its role rehabilitation. Further research is needed evaluate long-term examine pharmacokinetics MCTs, including blood concentrations, broader populations.
