Published: Dec. 25, 2024

Regular inspection of energy transmission lines plays a critical role to ensure the safety infrastructures and minimise failure risks. While traditional methods have limitations such as high cost, long duration hazardous working conditions, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are emerging an innovative alternative in this field. This paper provides comprehensive review use UAVs power lines, focusing on sensor technologies, artificial intelligence algorithms field applications. The integration LiDAR, thermal camera multispectral sensors into offers many advantages three-dimensional modelling detection anomalies assessment environmental In addition, deep learning reinforcement been observed improve performance by accelerating data processing improving autonomous navigation. study, different approaches case studies literature analysed detail, strengths UAV-based systems comparatively evaluated. Accordingly, challenges, legal regulations stand out main obstacles faced these technologies However, it is emphasised that significant improvements processes can be achieved with 5G technology edge computing systems. study not only evaluates current status infrastructures, but also recommendations for future research. More widespread adoption will contribute more reliable, efficient sustainable management sector.
