Despite the extensive literature revealing various core structures that can enhance impact resistance of composite panels, a comparative study illustrating difference in performance cores under same loading conditions is missing. The aim this to determine optimal structure and design terms energy absorption low-velocity using both numerical simulations experimental testing for validation. Response surface analysis was used experiments analyse panel's behaviour. A total 160 were conducted by varying shape, density, number layers thickness. Drop tower tests performed experimentally validate results. Additive manufacturing 3D print tested which simplified process. Results provided insights on time perforation, stiffness panels showcasing an inverse relationship between recoverable strain equivalent plastic strain. within identified as pivotal factor distribution tendency localized deformation occur. Both results revealed superior capabilities X-frame shaped structure. Regression models developed shed light relationships height, volume fraction, layers, topology extent damage. Multi-objective optimization yield configuration sandwich with highest resistance.
