Abstract The quasi‐biennial oscillation (QBO) is the dominant mode of interannual variability in tropical stratosphere and influences climate worldwide. This study investigates seasonal predictability QBO eight dynamical forecasting models from international operational centers organizations. Results show that current have high skills predicting evolution benefiting their capability characterizing typical downward propagation QBO. Further analyses most can reasonably reproduce teleconnection patterns, but with weaker amplitude than observation, which may be due to underestimation Holton‐Tan effect models. Prediction teleconnections winter surface patterns are not yet satisfactory some though they quite skills. These results provide a comprehensive evaluation status prediction thus deeper understanding predictability, would shed light on its teleconnection.
