Glazed envelopes play a strategic role in the environmental performance of buildings, significantly affecting indoor comfort and energy consumption while allowing penetration natural light into interior space. Over last few years, research activity related to building envelope has been focused on achievement higher efficiency quality standards, looking towards promising solutions satisfy management solar gains occupants' needs. In this view, present study introduces photoluminescent materials as an innovative coating for smart window applications, exploring their potential visual comfort. An innovative, small-large scale experimental methodology is developed applied evaluate dynamic response such applications under realistic boundary conditions. Results prove that translucent–photoluminescent solution can provide homogeneous daylight diffusion during day guarantee general sense orientation evening without demanding artificial lighting. Furthermore, numerical simulations showed remarkable ability material reduce both intensity perception glare throughout year.

Summary Light is an important regulator of daily human physiology in providing time‐of‐day information for the circadian clock to stay synchronised with 24‐hr day. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic led social restrictions many countries prevent virus spreading, that dramatically altered routines and limited outdoor daylight exposure. We previously reported sleep duration increased, jetlag decreased, mid‐sleep times delayed during (Global Chrono Corona Survey, N = 7,517). In present study, we investigated same dataset changes wellbeing their link exposure, sleep–wake behaviour. restrictions, median values quality, quality life, physical activity productivity deteriorated, while screen time exposure was reduced by ~58%. Yet, survey participants also no or even improvements. Larger reductions were linked deteriorations times. Notably, not associated loss. Longer decreased alarm‐clock use dose‐dependently correlated life. Regression analysis each aspect showed a model six predictors including both levels deltas timing explained 5%–10% variance scores (except productivity). As may extenuate negative effects restriction disruption, public strategies pandemics should actively foster spending more daytime outdoors.

This study explores the relationship between light features of Arctic spring equinox and circadian rhythms, sleep metabolic health. Residents (N = 62) provided week-long actigraphy measures, including exposure, which were related to body mass index (BMI), leptin cortisol. Lower wrist temperature (wT) higher evening blue exposure (BLE), expressed as a novel index, nocturnal excess (NEIbl), most sensitive measures associated with BMI. A BMI was linked BLE within distinct time windows. These associations present specifically in carriers MTNR1B rs10830963 G-allele. larger wake-after-sleep onset (WASO), smaller 24 h amplitude earlier phase activity rhythm leptin. Higher cortisol an M10 our other Daylight Deficit Index light, DDIbl. We also found sex-, age- population-dependent differences parametric non-parametric indices BLE, wT physical activity, while there no any characteristics. Overall, this determined markers predictive health showed that these are melatonin receptor polymorphism.

There is accumulating evidence for positive effects of green spaces on mental and brain health. Here we investigated whether differentiating the types may be relevant. On longitudinal data children ( N = 95) from Netherlands, quantified link between space exposure at home birth onwards MRI structure 12.5 years. We differentiated resulting trees versus open also associated visibility sky (sky view factor) with (200 m buffer around address). observed a association grey matter volume in different prefrontal clusters coverage as well view, but negative within tree cover density. Most importantly, medial cortex, only region which all three analyses overlapped, was most important predictor. Our findings advance knowledge health-promoting, evidence-based urban planning.

Studies suggest a correlation between excessive sedentary behavior, insufficient physical activity, and an elevated likelihood of experiencing psychiatric disorder. Nonetheless, the precise influence behavior activity on disorder remains uncertain. Hence, objective this research was to investigate possible causal relationship susceptibility (depression, schizophrenia bipolar disorder), utilizing two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach.

Urban daylight significantly affects the physical and mental health of urban residents. Many previous studies focused on how outdoor conditions affect indoor daylighting buildings, whereas design conditions, which also exerted an equally significant part, was relatively overlooked. There are few empirically explored in various forms mature neighbourhoods. Through investigating pedestrian performances 11 representative open neighbourhood units inner-city Shenzhen, this study aims to identify influence factors. field investigation, mapping on-site measurement, analysed horizontal illuminance level site uniformity 84 spaces. As results revealed, morphological characteristics affected daytime illumination. Specifically, high-density mid-rise villages park demonstrated best visual comfort conditions. The multivariate regression test that sky view factor greatest illumination, followed by mean building height, ground surface albedo vertical uniformity. Hence, patterns have great potential optimizing for behaviours energy use, is reference value setting specific standards achieve goals initiatives “Healthy Cities.”
