This study aimed at investigating aircraft noise exposure levels, their annoyance, and potential health effects among communities living within airport catchment areas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both field measurements an online survey approach were used to investigate general residents near Muscat International Airport (MCT) in Muscat, Oman, amid period. The found a drastic decline levels due introduction of intervention measures such as lockdowns, social distancing, closure airports. In June 2020, pandemic, average daily LAeq (39.9 dB(A)) Lmax (49.7 was observed compared previous year (April–May 2019) 58.5 76.8 dB(A), indicating reductions level 32% 35%, respectively. results 187 participants showed that most (58.8%) respondents did not feel produced by causes annoyance. During day, vast majority interviewees complain any annoyance morning (45.5%), afternoon (39.6%), evening (31%) with only < 4% have reported very high degree pandemic Very few people (17%) experiencing problems while 29% know could be attributed exposures. Aircraft complaints As-Seeb pre-COVID-19 periods extremely reaching about 84% 41% this current These findings support need develop future sustainable mitigation policies order help reduce exposures improve human post-COVID-19 periods.

Abstract Public green and open spaces fulfil various social, ecological, economic, aesthetic roles, which can be complementary while also competing with one another. The COVID-19 pandemic catalysed multiple societal changes, including citizens’ perception, needs expectations relating to urban spaces. This article discusses the extent temporally geographically changed patterns of experiencing these natural influenced users’ perception behaviour as well their appreciation conservation areas. study is based upon two surveys carried out in greater metropolitan region Vienna, capital city Austria. A quantitative survey (representative online panel) among Viennese population ( n = 1012), qualitive interviews experts responsible for areas, administrators federal parks, along NGOs representatives were spring summer 2021. Our shows citizens towards during pandemic. An increased importance time spent nature (68%) possibility visit large areas (67%) was reported by citizens. Also, higher recognition located close home observed 69% respondents. There significant differences opinions on age gender groups. Thus, presented contributes ongoing international discussion transition its effects induced Presented results highlight need urgent transformation a more sustainable, resilient healthy space.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic significantly modified our urban territories. One of the most strongly affected parameters was outdoor noise, caused by traffic and human activity in general, all which were forced to stop during spring 2020. This an indubitable noise reduction both inside outside home. study investigates how people reacted this new unexpected, unwanted unpredictable situation. Using field measurements, it possible demonstrate sound pressure level clearly decreased. Furthermore, means international survey, discovered that had positive reaction lower level. preference generally not related home typology or location city, but rather a generalized wish live quieter environment.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused (and continues to cause) severe disruption in global and local economies forced countries, societies, individuals adapt quickly the unprecedented unpredictable situations. Despite obvious negative consequences of pandemic, many have called for efforts identify transformative opportunities sustainable development throughout this disorderly time. In present paper, we explore such potential context an interdisciplinary, international research project, which is focusing on marine management biosphere reserves parks Southeast Asia. During a virtual workshop conducted as part GCRF (Government’s Global Challenges Research Fund) Blue Communities Project, future scenarios were developed depicting effects five case study sites. All these sites are areas internationally recognized outstanding ecological value (Taka Bonerate Kepulauan-Selayar Biosphere Reserve, Indonesia; Tun Mustapha Park, Sabah, Malaysia; Palawan Philippines; North Devon United Kingdom; Cu Lao Cham-Hoi An Vietnam). At macro-level, economies, governance structures, societal norms undergoing big changes. micro-level, livelihoods, lifestyles, backyards residents adapt. Collaboratively, explored how posed challenges our sites, but also focused COVID-19-related windows opportunity development. Opportunities could be identified all three pillars development: environment, society, economy. Although remarkable similarities can found across conclude that there cannot “one-size-fits-all” solution turn tide toward achieving Just before starts with engaging understanding environments, challenges, situations; building knowledge; developing tailor-made solutions communities situ .
