In recent years, government investments in implementing restrictive public policies on the treatment and discharge of effluents from aquaculture industry have increased. Hence, efficient cleaner methods for production are needed. Recirculating systems (RAS) offers water conservation by recycling treated reuse. RAS wastewater using a moving bed bioreactors (MBBRs) process has been considered well suited maintaining good quality, thereby making fish farming more sustainable. Currently, improvements were achieved tackling influence salinity, organic matter, disinfectant, bioreactor start-up MBBR performance efficiency. This review highlights an updated overview development made to treat residual RAS. Precisely, nitrification simultaneous nitrification-denitrification (SND), other hybrid processes nitrogen removal elucidated. Finally, future challenges prospects MBBRs facilities that need be also proposed.
