Microplastics (MPs) in everyday consumer products have paved the way for high MPs concentrations wastewater. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP)s are significant focal points MP pollution, as millions of particles with varying characteristics enter WWTPs through sewage systems urban areas. Although units not primarily designed to target specifically, researchers reported a large amount microplastic removal from various WWTPs. The scientific community has remarkably studied conventional and advanced methods remediate nanoplastics (NPs) This review aims provide comprehensive knowledge about source NPs wastewater, their composition, toxic effects, remediation comprise several physical, chemical, biological processes broadly categorized into three key stages: primary, secondary, tertiary. interaction these also been reviewed. Literature indicates that can separate more than 90% However, despite low treated effluent, discharge volumes contribute MPs/NPs environment. Also, separated re-enter environment sludge applied on land. paper discusses application wastewater technologies efficacies remediating microplastics. Finally, highlights research gaps where additional exploration is required, providing new perspective developing policies controlling pollution.
