Ethanol combined-ball milling was used to modify corn-stover biochar. The adsorption performance and mechanisms of aqueous norfloxacin (NOR) onto the resulting biochar (C2H6O-BC) were evaluated. Ball-milling modulated its surface oxygen-containing functional groups enhanced specific area. capacity C2H6O-BC 163 mg·g−1, about 72% equilibrium could be reached within 60 min. electrostatic interaction not dominant mechanism when initial pH lower than 8.00. antagonistic effect Cu(II) on NOR observed. fixed-bed column showed potential remove spontaneously. Sequential two-stage batch reaction experiment that it a fast efficient technology using C2H6O-BC. suggested as π-π interactions, H-bonding pore-filling. In summary, ethanol-combined ball in this study provided an adsorbent for NOR.

Seaweed is considered a third-generation biomass for transport biofuel production with great potential bioenergy and biorefinery applications. Microwave-assisted hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) offers conversion route seaweed valorization to multiple value-added products. However, the HTC products (such as hydrochar process liquor) are highly dependent on feedstock properties conditions. This study investigated of Laminaria digitata range (primarily including hydrochar, levulinic acid 5-hydroxymethylfurfural) through microwave-assisted at low temperatures (160, 180 200 °C) levels dilute addition (1, 2 4% H2SO4 concentration). The work suggests an optimized temperature °C H2SO4, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural in liquor achieved highest yields 12.5% (12.5 g per 100 dry L. digitata) 5.8%, respectively. obtained had higher heating value 25.5 MJ/kg volatile solids, comparable lignite coal. At such condition total carbon recovery produced accounted 84% original seaweed. derived presented content 65.4%, but lowest abundance oxygen-containing functional groups compared hydrochars under other conditions (160 °C). economic benefits might be significantly increased if was upgraded into activated instead being used solid fuel.
